Hello Fellow DeKalb County Republicans,

One of our members stood up last Thursday night at the DeKalb GOP County Committee meeting and reminded us of that Juneteenth (short for “June
Nineteenth”) is not a Black holiday from Black history. Rather, it is an American holiday from American History. In October of 2019, President Donald J. Trump
looked out at a group of African American youth and stated: “You built the nation. We all built it, but you were such a massive part of it. Bigger than you were
given credit for.”

We could not agree more. Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and poignantly two months after the war had ended with the Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse, Juneteenth is the longest-running African-American holiday. In keeping with the holiday, we are so thrilled to be marking Juneteenth with our monthly breakfast and hosting motivational speaker, minister, and proud American Vivian Childs. Vivian is beginning her run for Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District and sharing her new book, “In His Hand,” for purchase and personalized signing.

We are also thrilled to welcome Kelvin King, Candidate for U.S. Senate and Dontè Thompson, DeKalb Young Republicans Chairman. Last Thursday night we also recognized DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections (BVRE) Representative Anthony Lewis for his faithful service to the DeKalb GOP. As we gear up for the 2022 Midterm Elections, I challenge all of us to work together to restore “FITness – Faith, Integrity and Trust” in our elections. I also challenge each of you to bring forth new these ideas and present meaningful solutions. Let’s take the high road and show how DeKalb Republicans can lead from the front to #VoteDeKalbRed.

I look forward to seeing all of you on Saturday at the Juneteenth DeKalb GOP Breakfast. Bring a neighbor, friend and/or family member. More the merrier! More
details and to register.

With Best Regards,
Marci McCarthy
DeKalb GOP Chairman
