It is hard to believe that it has been one year since the world has watched in disbelief at the collapse of Afghanistan and thirteen young heroes came home in flag draped coffins while our so-called “Commander-in-Chief” declared a hollow victory for America’s Longest War. We also cannot forget that process has botched an evacuation that stranded hundreds of Americans and tens of thousands Special Visa Holders behind enemy lines, and weaponized our enemies by giving them billions of dollars in state-of-the art military equipment.  As a successful business woman that has long advocated for the advancement of women, girls and minorities in cyber security and technology, it saddens me greatly to think about the plight of females in Afghanistan under the Taliban Tyrannical Rule.

Last week, Joe Biden announced that he would cancel $10,000 in federal student debt for individual Americans earning $125,000 or less per year or married couples making less than $250,000 a year. In addition, those who receive federal Pell Grants and make less than $125,000 a year would be eligible for total forgiveness of $20,000.  Like many of you, I am outraged by Joe Biden’s student loan debt forgiveness scheme to buy votes and reward deadbeats. Not only is it an insult to the millions of hardworking Americans who have worked so hard to pay off their student loans and or chose not to go to college altogether, it raises serious legal concerns.

Noticeably absent from the executive order is any plausible legal authority to implement such a policy.

it will also not help inflation and will cost American taxpayers an estimated $300 billion. This is yet another example of just how out of touch Joe Biden is with a majority of Americans who just want us to rein in out-of-control inflation, need affordable goods, gas, groceries, less crime, and secure borders.  It also does nothing about the root problem which is higher education continues to go unchecked nor is being held accountable for its’ predatory practices.  As stated wisely by NPR, “It also gives colleges more pricing power to raise tuition without pressure and to offer low-value degrees.  The old rule in economics is when the government subsidizes something you tend to get more of it. And that includes high tuition and college debt.”

Finally, to those critics who have gone from following the science to now become economists but are still masking while driving their Priuses solo, STOP comparing the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan forgiveness to Student Loan forgiveness — They are not the same thing!!  The PPP Loans were designed to be forgiven and to keep businesses going during the Covid Shutdowns.

Here are the key differences:

  • PPP loans were offered loans that could be forgiven if the companies spent the money on business expenses and employee salaries.  If you negated on any of the aforementioned requirements, the business was on the hook to repay the debt.
  • PPP loans were part of a law and spending bill that was passed by Congress following the Constitutional requirements. Student loan forgiveness is part of an executive order by Joe Biden that has no basis in law and is probably going to lose in court.
