January 9, 2023

The first week of 2023 was one for the history books, for the insomniacs, nail biters and prayer warriors alike!  At the stroke of midnight, we rang in the New Year with the Georgia Bulldogs beating the Ohio State Buckeyes by one point at the Peach Bowl.  Then over the course of a week with 15 rounds of voting in the early morning hours of January 7th, the House of Representatives officially elected GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy to be the Speaker. Regardless of what the pundits and the Monday Morning Quarterbacks have said about this week, we saw democracy at work with the framework being put in place to give all House Members the ability to address the issues of We the People. What we also saw is how we need each other to create Win-Win situations.  Together, we saw the necessary give and take that leads to tangible outcomes and progress. While each stakeholder may not get everything they want. It does mean that they will get some of what they deem important.  As Republicans, this will ultimately help our nation move forward and be a better place for all.

And now that Congress has been sworn in and in speaking to several of Congressmen/women, they are all in to address our nation’s problems.  They look forward to reigning in our reckless spending, fix our economy, restore energy independence, provide oversight of the Biden Administration, and secure our southern border.

Today, the Georgia General Assembly will gavel in for the 2023 Legislative Session. They will also elect a new Speaker of the House with a presumptive congratulations to Jon BurnsLt. Governor Burt Jones will preside over the Senate for the first time – albeit it may be a little delayed due to many of our elected officials will be in attendance at the College Football Playoff National Championship game.  But all will be back in time for Governor Kemp’s Inauguration on Thursday, January 12th.  (Details are below on how to attend the Inauguration and Gala).

Speaking of tickets — Get your tickets to the DeKalb GOP Breakfast to be held on January 21st.  I will be moderating a fireside chat “Under the Gold Dome: The Georgia Legislative Agenda 2023” with Senator Shawn Stills, GA Senate District 48, Rep. Scott Hilton, GA House District 48 and Rep. Rey Martinez, GA House District 111.

I would strongly encourage all Georgia Republicans to attend their Precinct Caucuses, County and Congressional Conventions. On Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 10 AM each county will gather at a designated locations for their Precinct CaucusAt this Caucus, you will meet with others in your precinct to elect officers for two-year terms as well as elect delegates and alternates to the County Convention which will be held on March 11th.  Become a State GAGOP Delegate and influence the change you want to see in our party. We all need each other. Let’s GO DAWGS!
