January 14, 2023

It was an honor to attend the Inauguration Ceremony of Governor Brian Kemp and our state’s constitutional officers at Georgia State University’s Convocation Center followed by the Inaugural Gala at the State Farm Arena. One of the most compelling quotes of Governor Kemp’s inaugural address was “Through the next four years, we are going to be focused on growing Georgia, not growing government.” Additionally, Governor Kemp administered the oath of office for newly elected Lt. Governor Burt Jones.  In his speech, reflecting on his life in Jackson, Lt. Governor Jones said small town values can benefit Georgia. “This is our moment,” he said. “This is our time.”

Both men could not be more on point as we make our plans for the 2023 GAGOP Convention Cycle and elect our Precinct Leaders, County GOP Executive Committees, Congressional and State Party Leaders. For many, this will be the first experience in participating in a caucus or convention. On Sunday, January 22 from 6 PM – 8 PM, we will be hosting the DeKalb GOP / GAGOP Caucus & Convention Orientation.  Alex Johnson will share the ins-and-outs of convention rules and etiquette so you will have a better understanding of what to expect and can better participate in the proceedings.

We will kick off the Convention Cycle on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 10 AM as each of our 159 County GOPs will gather at a designated locations for theirPrecinct CaucusAt this Caucus, you will meet with others in your precinct to elect officers for two-year terms as well as elect delegates and alternates to the County Convention which will be held on March 11th.  Become a State GAGOP Delegate and influence the change you want to see in our party because we all need each other.

Mark your calendars as we will be having our first 2023 DeKalb GOP County Committee Meeting on January 19th from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM.  We will be getting a Midterm Elections Debrief from DeKalb Board of Registration Election Vice Chairman Nancy Jester and Representative Anthony Lewis.  I also hope that you will join us at the DeKalb GOP Breakfast to be held on January 21st.  I will be moderating a fireside chat “Under the Gold Dome: The Georgia Legislative Agenda 2023” with Senator Shawn Still, GA Senate District 48, Rep. Scott Hilton, GA House District 48 and Rep. Rey Martinez, GA House District 111.
