Reign Stevens
House District 116
Bio:
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama up until the age of 20, moved to Dallas Tx where I resided from 1992 to 1999. In 1999 I relocated to Atlanta GA. Met my now husband whom I have been married to for 20 years and together we have 3 sons; his, mine, and ours. When we met I had a son and he had a son and we had a son together. I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer on April 30, 2018 11:30 am. I now have a nonprofit called Reign Over Cancer, Inc. in which I provide resources to cancer survivors. Being a cancer survivor has empowered me to believe that I can conquer any and everything. We only get one life and I am determined to live life to the fullest. For all my life I have been told that I should vote “Democrat” as if there were no other options because of my race. We live in a new day and time where anything is possible. Reign is different…in a good way. I don’t allow others to define me or my destiny. I’m a self-starter, efficient, intuitive, spiritual, Godfearing, loving divine creature.
I am a mother of 3 sons, married for 20 years, a breast cancer survivor in remission for 5 years. Heavily
involved in community advocacy. If I see something wrong I take the initiative to fix the problem. Worked
closely with legislation for nearly 20 years as a community advocate. Bridging the gap between legislation and the community. Looking forward to starting this new chapter in my life with my new community “Republican Party”.
Why do you align with the Republican Party?
I align with the Republican Party’s can-do attitude. Republicans are tough and stand on what they believe in. I love the way the party sticks together no matter what…an unbreakable chain. Republicans believe that individual achievements are the primary factors behind economic prosperity. This is a belief in which I share. If you work hard you can achieve greatness in America, which is the greatest country in my book. My husband often teases me for being a closeted Republican. After beating cancer I have the courage to make choices better suited to my beliefs. The Republican Party makes sense to me. This is not an easy decision because I have strong connections to the Democratic Party which goes back generations. My sister currently serves as a Democratic State Representative in Alabama. I would like to continue to
work with Democrats across the aisle and hope they understand my decision to switch parties.
I immediately received support from Representative Mesha Manner when I shared my desire to switch parties. She introduced me to other members of the party and I felt at home with everyone.
What are your top three reasons for running for office as a Republican?
Lower crime rate (contemplated moving to another area because of crime rate) decided I want to try to make a change instead of running.
Better school systems (my children all graduated from Atlanta public schools and I have 5 properties in Dekalb County) had to rent a condo in the city of Atlanta for my kids to get better education.
Healthcare reform (believe all Americans should have healthcare)
